I woke up on Monday feeling like I'd been steamrollered with a nasty head cold. So instead of doing all my necessary errands on my ONE day off, I was stuck at home nursing tepid tea and a growing pile of used tissues.
Now today I've JUST received notice from my distributor that they won't be able to ship me my copies of Kerr's new book. Kerr will be IN-STORE on Thursday to promote HIS BOOK. And I have NONE!!! I TOLD the distributor my order was needed before the 28th and that the author himself was coming in. They KNEW THAT. And now they're telling me at SEVEN in the evening TWO days before, that I won't have ANY books?!
I've spent the last hour desperately emailing other distributors, groveling for copies of the book. I've offered to pay extra for fast shipping, I've even stated I'd go pick them up myself if necessary. I also emailed the author to ask him to bring any copies he might have on hand...otherwise this is just too HUMILIATING!
This is supposed to be THE event of the month. I've been promoting this for WEEKS. And now I'm utterly undone.
Sometimes it's just not worth waking.

Here's a thought, if all else fails: Maybe if you can't get the books in time, maybe you could make up gift certificates for the books and sell them at the event with an offer to ship or hand deliver the books once they come in for no additional charge.

Actually, all is not lost. Another local distributor has 11 copies and they're sending them all to me - and they will arrive in time! It's not a lot, but it'll have to do. I have another 10 coming in from the other distributor still so if there is more demand than supply, those people will just have to wait.
